Universitatea Jiao Tong din Shanghai (Center for World-Class Universities) a publicat rezultatele clasamentului global al universitatilor 2010 (ARWU – Academic Ranking of World Universities).
Universitatea Harvard isi pastreaza prima pozitie pentru a opta oara, iar alte sapte universitati din SUA (Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Princeton, Columbia si Chicago) sunt in top 10 (Center for World-Class Universities 2010):

Mai mult, peste jumatate din universitatile din top 100 (respectiv 54) sunt din Statele Unite ale Americii.
In Europa, cele mai bine clasate universitati sunt din Marea Britanie: Cambridge (pozitia a 5-a) si Oxford (pozitia a 10-a). Alte universitati europene recunoscute sunt:
- ETH Zurich (23) in Elvetia
- Paris 6 (39) in Franta
- Copenhaga (40) in Danemarca
- Karolinska (42) in Suedia
- Utrecht (50) in Olanda
Din Asia-Pacific, cele mai bine clasate universitati sunt:
- Tokyo (20) in Japonia
- ANU (59) si Melbourne (62) in Australia
Alaturi de clasamentul global sunt realizate clasamente pentru domenii de studiu, respectiv discipline din cadrul acestora. De exemplu, pentru domeniul Stiinte ale Naturii si Matematica, primele trei universitati sunt Harvard, Berkley si Cambridge, iar pentru disciplina Matematica, topul este compus din Princeton, Berkeley si Harvard.

Bazat pe un set de indicatori obiectivi si date colectate de la terte parti, cele mai performante universitati din lume sunt ierarhizate in trei categorii de clasamente:
- Clasament global (topurile 100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500)
- Clasament la nivel arie de studiu (Stiinte ale Naturii si Matematica, Inginerie / Tehnologie si Calculatorare, Agricultura, Medicina Clinica si Farmacie, Stiinte Sociale)

Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has released the
2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
Harvard University remains on the first place for the eight time, whereas other seven US universities (Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Princeton, Columbia and Chicago) are in top 10 (Center for World-Class Universities, 2010):

Moreover, the US accounts more than half (54 universities) in the top 100.
In Europe, the UK has as best ranked universities Cambridge (5th position) and Oxford (10th position). Other recognized European universities are:
- ETH Zurich (23rd) in Switzerland
- Paris 6 (39th) in France
- Copenhagen (40th) in Denmark
- Karolinska (42nd) in Sweden
- Utrecht (50th) in Netherlands
From the
Asia-Pacific, the best ranked are:
- Tokyo (20th) in Japan
- ANU (59th) and Melbourne (62nd) in Australia
Along with the overall ranking, the rankings for broad fields and rankings for subjects have also been published. For example, for Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the top three universities are Harvard, Berkley and Cambridge, whereas for Mathematics alone, the top three are Princeton, Berkeley and Harvard.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is published annually by the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, starting with 2003.
Based on a set of objective indicators and third-party data, the best universities in the world are nominated and hierarchized in three types of rankings:
- Overall ranking (tops 100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500)
- Field ranking (Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Engineering / Technology and Computer Sciences, Life and Agriculture Sciences, Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy, Social Sciences)
